Our
Educational Curriculum is designed to meet the developmental needs
of each age group for which we care for. Each of our programs
encourage your child to learn by doing and being actively involved
in the process of growing; intellectually, physically, socially and
emotionally. Our classrooms are arranged with the children’s best
interests and needs in mind. Themes and Reading program items are
incorporated into the Centre’s curriculum on a weekly basis
Infant Program
(0 months to 18 months)
The Infant
room is a comfortable, safe environment where infants receive the
best in care. Each child follows a special routine based on their own
personal schedule. Individual program plans are designed to reflect
developmental goals for each child, clearly defining the process
for your child to achieve set goals. The room is arranged to promote
independent, hands on learning in a safe and nurturing environment.
Toddlers Program (18 months to 2.5 years)
The Toddlers'
room provides children with experiences, choices and challenges to
promote his/her overall development! We focus on positive social
interaction skills, positive communication skills, fine & gross
motor skills, positive self-esteem, self help skills and toilet
training.
Preschool Program (2.5 years to 3.8 years)
The Preschool
room provides educational, hands-on, learning experiences that will
prepare your child for independence in every day life. The room is
designed to promote individual choice, and opportunities for
co-operative learning experiences, both teacher-directed and
child-centered. Your child will be exposed to many discovery
learning centres, materials and activities that will enhance his/her
development in all the different areas: intellectual, language,
social, emotional and physical.
Kindergarten Program (3.8 years to 6 years)
Both the
Junior and Senior Kindergarten rooms follow the same criteria as the
Preschool program, but at more advanced levels. These rooms are
designed to prepare your child for Elementary School with a large
focus on reading, writing, computers and music with the aid of our
exclusive Special programs! Your child will have opportunities to
enhance their abilities in all the areas of development through a
variety of carefully planned activities
School Age Program
The program
allows your child to be actively involved in a variety of before and
after school activities. Our program allows your child freedom of
choice, a sense of accomplishment, a sense of belonging with an
opportunity to make lasting friendships and be involved in
activities they know they would enjoy. Teachers maintain a fun, safe
and independent environment offering support and guidance. Your
child will also receive daily assistance with their homework.
Special Programs
Each of our programs encourages Children to be
actively involved in their learning process. Teachers provide
Children with educational activities that nurture their
intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth.
The structure of the daily program reflects
the Day Nursery Act and the Toronto Operating Criteria
requirements. In addition ICSG provides Children with an enhanced
curriculum, as listed below:
Reading Program
The Reading Program offers Children an
introduction to reading and writing at three levels that are
developmentally appropriate, and which becomes progressively
challenging with each school year. This Program utilizes a variety
of resources such as activity guides, worksheets and extended
learning experiences throughout the classroom. This Program is
designed to help Children achieve language development,
comprehension and thinking skills.
There are three levels of Reading Readiness
that are unique to our Centres:
Bridge to Reading Level
I for 2 ½ -to-3 ½ year olds
Bridge to Reading Level
II for 3 ½ -to-4 ½ year olds
Lippincott
for 5 year olds.
Computer Program
The Computer Program is offered at the
Preschool through School age level. This Program is designed to
offer the Children an opportunity to explore the computer, learn how
to use all of the equipment appropriately, learn to type and
interact with a variety of educational games and activities.
“Love Your Heart” Program
This Programs’ focus is on health, safety and
nutrition. Our teachers introduce Children to concepts of healthy
living through innovative and educational activities. Children and
families are encouraged to “Get Involved”!
Music Program
The Music Program is specifically designed by
a professional Music Teacher and implemented weekly for each age
group. Children are introduced to rhythm, beat, tempo and a variety
of musical styles and genres with opportunities to sing, dance and
“move” creatively. Children have the opportunity to learn about and
play a variety of musical instruments. This Program not only
promotes musical awareness but instills listening skills and
co-operation.
Summer Program
A full time
Summer Day Camp with a dynamic Program that includes field trips,
various sports activities and nutritious hot lunches and snacks. We
also have various special interest clubs and have special
entertainment scheduled throughout the summer. (Summer camps are
not offered at all our locations)
Rainbow Program
The Rainbow Program supports the development
of physical activity skills for Children ages three years and up.
This Program is implemented and supervised by our teaching Staff
regularly. The teachers implement physical activities that empower
Children to not only feel good about themselves but, provides an
outlet for stress, and improves their learning ability and builds
co-operative skills. It also strengthens their bones, improves
flexibility, works the heart & lungs, develops co-ordination,
balance and helps to maintain a healthy weight.
Emergent Curriculum Program
The Emergent Curriculum Program for School Age
Children is implemented whereby Children have a say in what themes
interest them, and with the teachers supervision they conduct
research and hold discussions. Daily in the afternoon sessions
Homework help is offered School Age Children.
Montessori Program
This
Montessori Program promotes the children's innate ability to learn
in a well prepared environment that displays order beauty and
reality. The children learn through specifically designed materials
that target all the areas of development. It encourages children to
develop observation skills by being exposed to a wide variety of
activities and develop creativity, discovery, precision and self
discipline. The Montessori philosophy is a child-centered method,
hands-on-approach that teaches the child freedom to develop at their
own pace and interact with others in a natural and peaceful
environment. It teaches respect for the environment, for each other,
and for the various cultures. (This
program is offered only at Children Are People Childcare Centre). |
